Don’t worry, I am not here to be the “fun spoiler” and I’m certainly not going to suggest that you avoid all the party fun that is to come over the next month or so. However, I will try and guide you in the right direction to help you stay on track and keep you feeling fit and fab over the Christmas season. Because let’s face it, after the festive party season is over, January can be that little bit worse when you feel like the stuffed turkey you had at Christmas and dread the thought of a “January diet.” So, let’s keep everything in moderation and have the best of both worlds! Trust me, you can!
So, my first bit of advice if your wanting to stay on track, (if you don’t, please disregard this post and go get on with your life haha!) is to not defer calories. What I mean by this is that when you know you have the work Christmas drinks and nibbles coming up, it’s been a busy day at work and you know that all the party will be offering is mince pies, crisps and all things beige, you may think that avoiding eating much through the day will save you on the high calories in the evening. Unfortunately, it very rarely works out like that I’m afraid!!! Generally, all that will happen is that you will avoid eating your normal healthy meals and snacks, and arrive at the party starving hungry with no option other than to hoover up all the unhealthy snacks and wash it down with a bottle of red. So, stick to your nutrition through the day.
In fact, this leads nicely to my second tip which is to make sure you eat a decent meal before you arrive at the party, not only will this mean you will be full and won’t feel you need to stuff in all the sweet treats you can get your hands on, it will also help line the stomach so you don’t get TOO over the top on the booze and regret what you may or may not say to your boss ;). This is not saying don’t enjoy yourself and have a drink, but by doing the above, you can have a great time and know that you’ll not go off the rails and end up with a pounding head for the next three days!
I’d also suggest that you hit the dance floor, hard, dancing is not only amazing for getting the heart rate up and burning of some extra calories (and work that butt, I always have such sore legs after dancing), but brilliant for releasing endorphins which will substitute for the extra glasses of wine you might normally have.
When you get home after a fab night, don’t forget to have a pint of water to wash away the sins. Keep one next to the bed too in case you wake up dehydrated in the night. Also, don’t forget to take that make up off girls, and let the skin breath. Most importantly, try to avoid the Kebab shop on route or the endless rounds of toast and butter!!
Lastly, remember, it doesn’t end the day of the party. The following day when you are feeling a little worse for wear and most likely a little sleep deprived you may find yourself craving unhealthy sugary foods and drinks with quick release energy to help you get through the day. Don’t give in and ruin all your hard work at the final hurdle. Instead opt for something like GLUCO Tabs. These handy 15-calorie tablets are a great little pick-me-up to help beat the afternoon lull. Full of fast-acting glucose and totally free of artificial nastiness such as sodium and caffeine so you get a boost of what you need to get through the day to help you feel more alert and awake.
Happy party season everyone! Let your hair down, dance plenty and stick to your healthy eating plan throughout the day to help you stay on track towards your health goals.
