It’s coming to the end of our “summer”. The sun maybe didn’t shine as bright as we had all hoped, but it did try! Now September has hit, I think we are already bringing in the BBQ’s, pulling out our winter jumpers and choosing a box set to settle down with in the evenings. BUT!!!! The summers not quite over yet, so don’t be too hasty. Britain is brilliant at pulling out an Indian summer and we should show our appreciation by using up the last of the summer sun by getting out and getting active in it!!
Go walking in the great outdoors
If you have read my previous blogs, I think you may have gathered I’m a bit of a keen walker, I absolutely love hitting a coastal path or the woods and power walking myself on an adventure in nature. Not only is this just a brilliant way to stay in shape and tone up those legs, but it also gets you out in the fresh air, and clears your mind. And this time of year is so beautiful. The sun is still shinning, the leaves on the trees are changing colour, and the berries are out on the hedges. Early morning or sun-set walks are such a positive way to start and finish your day. So get out and walk, and while you walk, collect some Blackberries and try out my healthy crumble recipe.
Enjoy alfresco swimming
Now, as I mentioned earlier, the weather hasn’t been amazing this summer, but it has still been warm enough to heat up the sea and lakes. If you’re lucky enough to live by the sea or a lake, then get in the water, swim, splash, and swim a bit more, this is an activity I truly think works wonders for the body! Being weightless in the water is so good for the joints and your mobility and also so amazing for burning fat. Open water swimming is more intense then the pool and the colder temperatures makes your body burn more calories just by trying to stay warm. I know not everyone has the opportunity to get in the open water on a daily basis, but why not make a weekend trip to a lake or the sea and enjoy the last of summer with some swimming and camping. I highly recommend it, it’s not just good for the body it’s amazing for the soul!!
Work out in the park
Finally, get in the park and set yourself a circuit. When the long winter hits, you will regret the days that you didn’t use up and get in the sun. You can really get some fantastic sweaty workouts just by using the kids climbing frame in the park or just your own body weight. It’s so much nicer working out in the September sunshine then the stuffy gym, especially if you have been cooped up indoors working all day. The fresh air is so good for you, and your body will appreciate the vitamin D. If you’re stuck for ideas of what to do in the park, then check out my previous circuit post, as these are great for an outdoor session, or there are some epic workouts on YouTube that people have specifically filmed for park workouts. Get cracking!!
And finally, if the shorter days and less frequent sun is starting to take its toll and you’re already feeling a little less motivated, don’t forget your GLUCOTABS. Free of artificial nastiness, sodium or caffeine this fast-acting Glucose can help give you the little boost you need to get out and make the most of the final days of summer.
